Update
in Dec, 2007: We went undefeated again this year!
Update
in Dec, 2006: The Green Hawks (Cody's 4-6 grade football team,
coached by Tom) just finished the season undefeated and secured the national
championship! We play a team from the neighboring island, so we call it
a national championship. Cody was the running back and he racked up a
pretty impressive set of statistics this year. He had at least one touchdown
in every game, several of which were length-of-the-field runs. Tom also
coached Katie's K-1 basketball team that also boasts an undefeated (5-0-3)
record and a national championship. Both of those are on top of our (Cody
and Tom's) national championship in baseball last spring (we had one defeat
in that season - Nobody's perfect!). Click

This
is the page dedicated to "our" favorite sports teams. When I
say our, I mean mine (Tom) because being out here on Kwaj, I have a hard
time getting the rest of the family into it. I grew up in the Seattle
area and was born and raised a local sports fan. My deepest feelings are
for the Hawks, but the rest of my teams aren't far behind. I think of
growing up a Seattle sports fan as more of a curse than anything else.
It's not something you choose, it's just in your genes. I have tried to
switch teams before but it just doesn't work. I mean, who can honestly
root for the Yankees, Cowboys or Lakers other than the people who live
or grew up in those places? If you are a real sports fan, you know what
I mean. Below is what I have to say about each of my teams, in approximately
the order that I care for them.

We
finally made it to a Super Bowl!
I
never thought I'd say those words but the day finally came. I enjoyed
every second until the SB actually started. For all the hype and
excitement leading up to the game, I have to say it was about as
disappointing as a game can get - more disappointing than any game
I've ever seen. And that's saying something when it comes from a
Seahawks fan. . I wasn't disappointed by how they played because
they played well enough to win. In fact, they beat the Steelers
- up and down the field, in just about every facet of the game -
they just couldn't beat the refs.
The
NFL should be ashamed of what transpired in Super Bowl XL. A championship
(or at the very least a fair shot at it) was stolen from a team,
a city, and its fans. Whether the game was stolen intentionally
or just by pure incompetence is irrelevant. The blow-by-blow account
of what happened to rob the Seahawks of their first title has been
written many times so I won't bother to repeat it - it's a matter
of record and everyone knows it. But suffice it to say that I don't
know if I can seriously watch another NFL game again. The NFL is
tainted - it's reputation forever in question in my mind. It is
now in the same league as the WWF. What a shame for the game I've
always loved.
I
will say it was a fun ride and I will cherish every second of it
- except for the farce that was "Super" Bowl XL. Thank
you Seattle Seahawks for the ride of a lifetime. And to hell with
you thieving, money-grubbing, crooked bastards in charge of the
NFL. Shame on you!
Final
score if the refs don't show up: Seahawks 21 Steelers 17 |

I
was a dawg fan long before I ever went to school there, but being
an alumni of 1995 solidified forever my love for the purple and gold.
Oh how I long for the days of the Dawg-father when anything short
of a Rose Bowl victory and Top-10 finish was considered a failure.

You
would think that being the only Seattle sports team to win a title
(1979) would earn the SooooooperSonics a special place in my heart.
It would if basketball were still basketball. But the NBA has turned
into nothing but a bunch of crybabies and thugs who think dunking
IS basketball and defense is only played by those who can't dunk.
What a crock! For Shaq to be THE dominant force just shows how far
the NBA has sunk. I don't have anything against Shaq, per se, but
how people can call him the best playa in the NBA when he can't even
hit the rim from outside of 5 feet is just beyond me. If I were a
7'9", 450 lb gorilla like him I would whip his ass up and down
the court. Oh how I long to go back to the days of Larry Bird, Isaiah
Thomas and Magic Johnson when the assist was as good as (or better
than) the bucket. |

And
then there are the Mariners, or the Marinators as my dad calls them.
What a rotten bunch! Oh yes, there were the glory years of the mid
to late 90's when they did some winning. Hell, they even won a few
post-season series'. But naturally, as do nearly all Seattle sports
seasons, each year ended short of the ultimate goal. Alas as I write
in 2005 they are back in the cellar - you know, familiar territory.
But hey, they have a beautiful park and it's really fun to watch games
there. So what the hell?! Go M's! |
